Siti Nurbaya Bridges and Park


About 500 meters in the south of the city Padang, close to the harbour, in an area with Padang old town, there is a big bridge, called: “Jembatan Siti Nurbaya”, a bridge crosses the Arau river (Batang Arau) as the way to Siti Nurbaya Park, beside boat. Siti Nurbaya Park and Bridge was created because the strong lively fiction by Marah Roesli, one great writer from West Sumatra. The novel had been also filmed. In this park is also a cemetary place of Siti Nurbaya, a figure of Marah Roesli novel.

At daytime, Siti Nurbaya bridge is a normal bridge  as like as other bridge, but this lightened bridge offer a good place to hang out in the night, after the sun goes down, around 18.00 o’ clock. In this bridges, tourism can enjoying the night fresh air and some of Padang traditional food and drink. There are chairs to sit on also.

Siti Nurbaya park over you a wonderful & natural sightseeing and quiet place to enjoy Indies ocean and Padang city from the top of a hill, known as Gunung Padang. On the way to the park, you also could see another Japanese colonial remnants, such as cannon and bunker.
